Spinnaker Tower

Description

Originally intended to be named the Millennium Tower, this is the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, it is the tallest building in the city at 170 meters. The tower was intended to be opened in 1999 in time for the millennium however it was not completed until 2005 hence the name got changed. It is as very popular tourist attraction in the Gunwarf Quays area of the city and incorporates three viewing platforms and a glass floor, it afford splendid views of the city, the Solent and the historic dockyard.

Gunwarf Quays is probably the busiest place in Portsmouth so visiting with a camera poses the obvious challenge of getting enough time and space to compose the shot. Where I stood to take it is right outside a glass fronted café, so I had a fair few spectators. It required be to get right down low to find and angle that incorporated the elements I wanted, It was a very blustery day with some great clouds which I love in this pic. I altered to Greyscale as I liked the “moodiness” it gives the composition.
